Earlier on Saturday, England’s Nathan Maguire successfully defended his T54 1500m title, finishing in a time of three minutes 17.65 seconds to claim the gold he first won at Birmingham 2022. The 29-year-old Paralympic silver medallist was boxed in by the Australian pair for much of the race and grew anxious as the bell rang for the final lap. Then space opened up.
England team-mate Daniel Sidbury, who also took silver at the 2022 Games, again finished runner-up. Australia’s Sam Rizzo rounded out the podium in bronze. Maguire said it was a memorable race that ranked among the best of his career, describing the moment space opened up ahead of him as akin to the parting of the Red Sea. Boxing Finals Round Off a Busy Saturday Programme
Day 9 at Glasgow 2026 features 44 gold medals across six sports — one of the largest single-day medal hauls in Commonwealth Games history. Boxing wraps up its full programme with 14 finals. It opens with Canada’s Scarlett Delgado against India’s Preeti Preeti in the women’s 54kg bout before working up to the men’s super-heavyweight division.
Josh Kerr Targets the Mile in Front of Home Crowd
The night’s marquee athletics event is the return of the Mile to the Commonwealth Games programme. Scotland’s Josh Kerr, the reigning world-record holder at the distance, competes at EDF Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow in front of a home crowd. Kerr will not lack for noise. The 19 athletics and para-athletics gold medals on offer Saturday make it the single biggest day of the track programme.
