The 15-year-old finished as India’s leading run-scorer across the three matches, accumulating 151 runs and announcing himself emphatically on the international stage.
His series haul spanned three contrasting innings: a blistering 50 off 19 balls in the opener, a brief 20 off 9 in the second match, and a composed 81 off 49 in the series finale. The third-match knock included eight fours and four sixes, taking India to 192/5 before the bowlers wrapped up a 35-run victory.
Record-Breaking Arrival in Harare
The series opener set the tone. Sooryavanshi reached his half-century off just 18 deliveries against Zimbabwe, becoming the youngest player in history to post a fifty in T20 international cricket — and, per the same report, the youngest to achieve the milestone across all international formats. Chasing a modest 126, he struck four fours and four sixes before being caught at deep third man off a Richard Ngarava delivery, departing with India at 68/2. Ishan Kishan and captain Shreyas Iyer then guided the chase home with 40 balls to spare.
It was a significant turnaround for the youngster. Sooryavanshi had made history earlier this month as the youngest Indian to earn a senior cap, debuting in the T20I series against England, but managed only 42 runs in three innings during that difficult tour. Zimbabwe offered him a reset.

Sooryavanshi’s 81 in Sunday’s deciding game was his most complete knock of the trip. On his batting approach, he said he had simply tried to replicate what he does in practice and in domestic T20 cricket. His aim in each match was to give India a strong start, and if that came, to push on and build a bigger score. He described collecting his first senior Player of the Match and Player of the Series awards as a dream come true.
Iyer Claims First Series Win as Captain
The result also marked a personal milestone for skipper Shreyas Iyer. The 3-0 win was his first T20I series victory since taking over the captaincy, ending a seven-match losing run that had included back-to-back series defeats in Ireland and England. After the opening win, Iyer said he was delighted with the team’s performance and described the victory as a confidence boost ahead of the remaining matches at the same ground.
