Yankee Global Enterprises has finalised a $2.6 billion financing agreement with affiliates of Apollo Sports Capital, the organisations announced on Tuesday. The deal combines credit and equity, with proceeds earmarked for refinancing existing debt and supporting continued franchise development.

The Steinbrenner family retains full control. Hal Steinbrenner remains as Managing General Partner and continues to serve as the Yankees’ MLB Control Person.

Deal Structure and Board Changes

As reported by Sports Business Journal, the transaction was already in negotiation as of mid-July. Apollo Sports Capital CEO Al Tylis will take a seat on the Yankee Global Enterprises board, which expands by one position to accommodate him.

MLB rules cap private equity ownership at 15% of any team’s equity. The Yankees carry the highest valuation in the league, with Forbes placing them at $8.5 billion and CNBC at $9 billion.

What Both Sides Said

Steinbrenner, in his capacity as Chairman of Yankee Global Enterprises, said the organisation continuously seeks ways to strengthen its position, and that the Apollo partnership opens the door to strategic opportunities ahead. He welcomed Apollo into what he called the Yankees family.

Apollo Sports Capital CEO Al Tylis, who will now sit on the YGE board, described the Yankees as one of sport’s most iconic franchises and said his firm was grateful to the Steinbrenner family for their trust. He framed the deal as supporting the organisation’s pursuit of the championship standard it has long maintained.

Apollo Partner Robert Givone characterised the agreement as precisely the type of tailored capital solution Apollo Sports Capital was built to provide, and said the firm looks forward to a long-term partnership with the franchise.

Apollo Sports Capital Background

Apollo Sports Capital launched in 2025 as a permanent capital platform focused on financing solutions across sport and live events globally. Its parent, Apollo Global Management, managed approximately $1.05 trillion in assets as of June 30, 2026, according to Pulse 2.0.

Apollo’s existing sports footprint is notable. Last year the firm became the largest shareholder in Spanish club Atlético de Madrid, per Yahoo Sports.

YGE’s Wider Portfolio

Yankee Global Enterprises’ holdings extend well beyond the baseball team. The company holds stakes in AC Milan, New York City Football Club, the YES Network, and Legends Hospitality.

On the advisory side, Gibson Dunn is acting as legal counsel to YGE, with Goldman Sachs serving as strategic advisor. Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison is lead legal counsel for Apollo Sports Capital, and Katten Muchin Rosenman is handling regulatory counsel.

The transaction is set to close imminently, according to Sports Business Journal.
