Australia’s governor general, Sam Mostyn, takes part in the first Big Freeze since the death of AFL great and motor neurone disease (MND) campaigner Neale Daniher. In homage to Daniher's career, Mostyn dons a split Essendon-Melbourne jersey with a Demons cap before taking the plunge at the MCG in front of tens of thousands of spectators in blue MND beanies. Mostyn says if everyone was like Daniher, Australia would be 'unstoppable' and a more caring, community-focused place.
