The Atlanta Falcons have confirmed that outside linebacker Jalon Walker will miss the entire 2026 season after suffering a torn ACL at training camp in Flowery Branch, Georgia. The organization made the announcement on Wednesday, a day after Walker was carted off the practice field following a pass-rush play, unable to bear weight on his left leg.
11Alive’s Maria Martin confirmed the diagnosis via a team source, describing it as a massive loss for the Falcons. The injury drew an immediate emotional response at practice, with the entire squad taking a knee as Walker was attended to on the field.
How the Injury Unfolded
According to ClutchPoints, the injury occurred during a two-minute drill late in practice. Walker went down on a pass-rush play, and trainers came out immediately. No air cast was applied, but he was visibly distressed as he was transported off the field by cart, as The Falcoholic reported from Flowery Branch. Practice ended shortly after.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was among the first to flag the severity, reporting on X that Walker was feared to have torn his ACL, calling it a potentially brutal blow for Atlanta’s defense.
Walker’s Impact as a Rookie
The Falcons selected Walker 15th overall in the 2025 draft out of the University of Georgia. His debut season was strong: 36 tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery across 15 games and nine starts, per the Associated Press.
ClutchPoints noted that reaching five sacks in his first nine career games made Walker just the third rookie in Falcons history to hit that mark, joining Marcus Cotton and Mike Pitts. His contributions helped lift Atlanta from the bottom of the NFL sack rankings in 2024 to second overall with 57 sacks last season, behind only the Denver Broncos (68).

Atlanta’s Pass Rush Now Under Pressure
The injury leaves Atlanta’s edge-rushing depth in a difficult spot. Walker’s fellow 2025 first-round pick James Pearce Jr. is facing potential suspension following an arrest earlier this year, meaning the Falcons could open the season without either of their premium pass-rush investments from last year’s draft, as Sportscasting reported.
Additionally, DeAngelo Malone was placed on the reserve/PUP list on Tuesday. The Associated Press noted that Atlanta will now lean on a group of edge rushers including Azeez Ojulari, Samson Ebukam, Cameron Thomas, Bralen Trice and Keshawn Banks. Trice himself is returning from back-to-back torn ACLs.
Before the injury, Walker had expressed eagerness to build on his rookie year, telling reporters he had spent the offseason training between the Falcons’ facility and his former campus at Georgia, itching to get back on the field. That chance will now have to wait until 2027.
